“Serene” WOD was designed by Jerry Holguin for Kettlebells for Braincells (KB4BC) and was done in honor of Scott on the day of his memorial service on 8-8-15.
8-4-15 is the date that we said goodbye to Scott. 43 Burpees – one for every year that he was alive. 1 Mile Run – Scott would talk about how he used to hate running so much but after losing his balance and ability to run – all he wanted to do was run. So we will finish the workout by running one mile for our friend.” The 4 rounds are for his 4 children.
After doing CrossFit for several years Scott Serene was diagnosed with terminal glioblastoma multiforme (brain cancer) in March of 2014. Scott wanted to find a way to use his passion for CrossFit to raise awareness and give back to the brain cancer community.
From this the idea Kettlebells for Brain Cells (KB4BC) – a fundraising competition hosted at Hill Country CrossFit – was born. In March of 2015 Scott was diagnosed with a second brain tumor, this time on the brain stem and inoperable.
In June of 2015 Scott was able to see his dream become a reality when the inaugural Kettlebells for Brain Cells event took place. With an amazing show of support, Scott was able to raise $5,000 for American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA).
